WELCOME TO THE NORTHEAST DIVISION OF BOWLS USAStretched from New England to Southern Virginia and out to Western Pennsylvania the Northeast Division is the birthplace of lawn bowls in the United States of America.
In the early 1900's the American Lawn Bowls Association was formed in Buffalo, NY and continues today as BOWLS USA with clubs spanning from coast to coast. Our division is a very active one with tournaments nearly every other week during the summer as well as an annual week-long open tournament with potential visitors from all over the globe. The Northeast Division supports a strong local club base and encourages clubs to join and spread their wings to other clubs and more competition. We support clubs who foster strong camaraderie, league play and social events throughout the year and who seek to promote and grow the sport for future generations to enjoy. The Northeast division has a long tradition of excellence with several national champions and even a world champion in its past and current membership. All the clubs welcome guests who want to try out this sport and joining is easy. Contact us today and we'll get you started in a game that you can play and enjoy for a lifetime. It is a great family game with husbands and wives playing at the same time with their children. It is not unheard of to have three generations all playing on the same green. We all have witnessed 12 year olds competing against 80 year olds, grandfathers against grand-daughter and brothers teaming up for 2 and 3 decades. It is truly a sport one can play and compete at a high level for many many years. The most common phrase we hear from new members who came to the game in retirement is, "I wish I knew about this game before!" Come give it a try! Sincerely, Veronica Sum NED President April 2018 NED Bowler of the Year (BOY)![]() How Bowler of the Year is Determined....
At each event on the NED calendar, points are awarded for finishing in the first 4 positions (if determined). 10 points for 1st, 8 points 2nd, 5 points for 3rd and 3 points for 4th. Points are accumulated throughout the year and an award is made to the top player based upon points at the end of the year or at the first event the following year. An award is also given to the best Player in each Decade. Starting in 2018 we will no longer award BOY points for the Play-downs and the top 10 players at end of the NED Open will automatically qualify for selection into the East Coast Challenge team should that player apply. Also receiving selection will be the Play-down winners. East Coast Challenge is an annual Team event against the Southeast Division. Each division selects 15 players to play in 3 groups of 5 over 2 days in Singles, Pairs, Triples and Fours. Download file for history of BOY and past BOY winners

2018 NED TOURNAMENT RESULTS
DREVITCH PAIRS AT BUCK HILL FALLS - June 23 & 24, 2018
Congratulations to Joe Kelly & Ryan Hastu of New York Lawn Bowling Club for winning the 2018 Drevitch Pairs, which was hosted at lovely Buck Hill Falls in the Poconos this year. A total of 8 teams participated and we played an Australian pairs format for this tournament. Joe & Ryan were undefeated and won this event with a 5-0 record. Playoffs were held for 2nd & 3rd place between Jerry Demello & Maurice Lafond of Essex County Lawn Bowling Club against Susan Berg & Dan (Sven) Berg of Williamsburg as both teams had a 4-1 record. The husband & wife team of Dan & Susan defeated Jerry & Maurice, who were last year's defending champions, in a close game. Congratulations to all the winners and special thanks to Buck Hill and their wonderful hospitality.
RON BUCK SINGLES AT DUPONT - June 9 & 10, 2018
We finally kicked off our 2018 NED bowling schedule with the Ron Buck Singles held in Dupont on June 9 & 10, 2018. The weather finally cooperated and we were able to complete all games with the rain coming for the last end of the playoffs.
Betty-Lou Buck was on hand to present the trophy to Patrick Duffy, who defeated Ryan Hastu in the 3rd end of a tie breaker set after both winning all 6 of their games and 1 set each in the playoff game. This year we tried a different format for the singles playing 2 - 7 end sets with total points scored as the decider in each set. A 3 end tie breaker set with ends won was used when each player won a set each. One set point was earned with each Set or Tie Breaker Set won. We each played 6 games with the event decided on Set Points won rather than wins. This meant that a person finishing with 3 wins and 3 losses had a better Set Points total than someone with a 4 wins and 2 losses due to winning a set in each of their 3 losses giving them 9 points. The 4-2 player won no additional sets in their losses and finished with 8 points. In 3rd place was Dan Berg with 5 wins and 10 Set Points. 4th went to Joe Kelly who finished with more sets won than Barry Kessler in 5th place. Both finished with 9 points, Joe had 3 wins and Barry had 4 wins. Thanks to Tee Adams for hosting the event on what may be our final trip to Dupont as the future of their green is uncertain. Thanks also to all those that played and helped with the set-up of the green. We did not use the boards this year and just went with strings front and back of the ditch area. 1st - Patrick Duffy 2nd - Ryan Hastu - defending champion 3rd - Dan Berg 4th - Joe Kelly |

Institution of new fliers and business cards for use at some clubs in 2014...
We developed a new promotional flier and business card that will hopefully help spread a positive awareness of our sport around the communities that have bowling greens. This is our first new step towards working with clubs to build membership.
The fliers are tri-fold and are meant to be used in combination with the business card with each club's contact. Currently, Frick Park, Essex and Fernliegh LBCs have been issued cards and we will work to get more clubs involved.
You can click on each individual image on the bottom to enlarge.
