Arculli wins again!
The low turnout did not detract from the quality of bowling on a glorious weekend in Bloomfield NJ. where the greens were running over 14 seconds. 5 men and 3 women turned out for the 2013 NED singles Play-downs.
Michele Arculli won both of her games over Jean Lithgow & Annette Borowitz to advance to the National Championships to defend her 2012 Women's title.
After an exciting 18 point final, which lasted over 3 hours, Ed Last defeated Brian Drozd 18-11 to advance to the National Championships.
Our team for Arcadia California in October is now set with Arculli and Last joining Alphin and Miller and the Sayer brothers as our division representatives in the National Championships!

Tournament season is full swing. We have our Pairs representaives to the National Championships secure with Linda Alphin and Joan Miller of Williams burgh representing the women and Bob and Dick Sayer representing the men. Bob Sayer's son Josh started of the year by winning the Buck Singles in Williamsburg and Ed Last and Michele Arculli took the Motta Pairs. Since then we have had three tournaments including our annual NED Open in Frick park just last weekend. To see full results click here to see how the top finishers fared! Maurice LaFond of Brooklyn toped the singles and skipped the top triples team with Jerry Demello of Brooklyn and Ed Last of New York, while Williamsburg bowlers Paul Howland and Jack Edwards took the pairs!!
A couple weeks earlier the Hall of Fame Triples was played in Buck Hill Falls with 10 teams competing. At the end of the two days Maurice LaFond, Jerry DeMello and Barb Roberts came out on top defeating Bob, Josh and Debbie Sayer in a playoff.
At the end of June 14 Teams played Australian Pairs at the Skytop LBC for the Drevitch trophy. Burl & Barbara Roller - 5-0
took first place with Duncan Farrall & Brian Drozd coming in second.

Hall of Fame Triples in Buck Hill was won by LaFond, DeMello and Roberts
The team of Maurice LaFond, Jerry DeMello and Barb Roberts won a playoff game against Bob Sayer skipping his son and new daughter-in-law(and new lawn bowler) Debbie Sayer to take the Hall of Fame Triples in Buck Hill Falls. Three teams finished tie in the 10 team field.
The Rollers bowled over everyone at the Drevitch
14 Teams played Australian Pairs in Sky Top for the Drevitch trophy. It was a great weekend and many thanks to Sky Top for hosting and providing lunch on Saturday.
Winners 1st - Burl & Barbara Roller - 5-0 2nd - Duncan Farrall & Brian Drozd - 4 wins & a tie 3rd - Maurice Lafond & Jerry Demello defeated Colin Edgar & Michele Arculli in a 10 end playoff. Both teams finished 4 wins & 1 loss. |
Miller/Alphin and Sayer Brothers to represent NED in National Championships
Williamsburg LBC hosted the 2013 National Championships Northeast Division Pairs Playdowns on June 8 and 9. The weekend which was plagued by the affects of Tropical Storm Andrea dumping several inches of rain onto the green Friday limiting the practice round and continuing Saturday which delayed the second game and threatened to suspend play all day. Tournament director Colin Smith with a unanimous vote from the skips elected to continue play despite the soggy conditions. The Women had three teams and were able to determine a winner after the first day and the runner up was determined on day two. Joan Miller and Linda Alphin of Williamsburg will represent the division in October in Arcadia Ca. On the men's side brothers Bob and Dick Sayer won all six of their games in the round robin format, they were the only undefeated team.
The divisions representatives will play at the Santa Anita club Arcadia, Ca. on October 16-20 with the singles representative still to be determined. |
Last comes in first with Arculli at Motta
The Paul Motta pairs was won by Edward Last of the New York LBC skipping for current National Singles Champion and second generation bowler Michele Arculli of Essex County LBC. The team were the only undefeateds in the twelve team, 5 card draw. played at DuPont LBC in Wilmington DE. A playoff for second was won by brothers Bob and Dick Sayer who defeated Patrick Duffy and Bob's son Joshua Sayer.
Paul Motta was also a second generation bowler from Milton LBC in MA. who won many many division tournaments with his partner Jack Lucey. He and his father Lou Motta were staples on the greens in New England in the 70's, 80's and 90's. Paul represented the division in the National open and United States Championships. |
Fourth generation bowler wins Buck Singles in Virginia
Using his great-granfather's bowls, Joshua Sayer of Essex County LBC was the only undefeated player after the 6 card draw was completed at the Williamsbug LBC for the second annual Ron Buck Singles.
